Medicine Summer School

Why should you attend our Medicine Summer School?

  • Medical schools want you to know what it is like working as a doctor in the NHS, including what it is like working under current NHS pressures πŸ“š

  • Medical schools want you to be aware of and have some of the skills and qualities of a doctor and the ability to study through a 5-year degree. You can develop some of these on our programme πŸ†

  • You will not just have shadowed medical care being delivered but also reflect and talk about your experience. We teach these skills over the course πŸ“š

All placements are taught and supervised in person by Dr Abdul Mannan. Dr Mannan leads the COVID-19 response in East Lancashire, and here is talking to ITV about remote consultations during the pandemic πŸ“Ί

  • Patients and cases will be chosen from our own NHS practice to offer you training at the same standard as we teach our medical students 😷

  • You will develop your communication skills, confidence and a reflective approach to real medical cases, including breaking bad news and conflicts. This will help you with your interviews and studies at medical school 😑

  • The programme is designed around the General Medical Council Standards and outcomes of medical training, so you know your teaching is relevant and valuable for your future medical career βœ…

In-person placements are in the practice with a lunch and all refreshments included. We want our students to gain new skills but also enjoy the post.
